As America celebrated its 250th birthday, I’ve found myself thinking less about history books and more about the people who helped build this country.
Not just our founders, but the everyday Americans who had a skill, a dream, and the courage to build something of their own.
Small businesses have always been part of America’s story.
Many of today’s largest companies began with someone working out of a garage, a workshop, or a spare bedroom. Long before they became household names, they were simply people trying to build a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities.
That spirit is one of the reasons I started Lazer Made.
A Dream That Started More Than 40 Years Ago
Owning a business wasn’t a new dream for me.
Back in high school, one of my class projects was to create an imaginary business from the ground up. We developed the business concept, designed the store, created the marketing, and built the pricing strategy.
I still remember my idea.
It was a men’s clothing store called Sunset Ltd. in downtown Venice, Florida.
Life took me in a different direction. I spent decades building a career in banking and helping customers achieve their financial goals. But the dream of owning a business never completely disappeared.
Then something unexpected happened.
A longtime friend I’d been meeting for coffee each month began talking about retiring and selling his laser engraving business. During one of our conversations, I surprised even myself when I said, “I might be interested.”
That single conversation eventually became Lazer Made.
Looking back, I don’t think I was simply buying a laser engraving business.
I was finally saying “yes” to a dream that had been waiting for the right opportunity.
More Than Custom Laser Engraving
People often ask what makes one laser engraving business different from another.
The truth is, many of us use quality equipment and offer similar products.
The real difference isn’t the machine. It’s the person standing behind it.
When someone places an order with Lazer Made, I don’t see it as just another sale. I see someone trusting me to help create something meaningful.
Whether it’s a personalized gift for a family member, a recognition award, home décor, or a custom business piece, every project starts with someone else’s idea. I enjoy helping bring that vision to life.
There’s something incredibly rewarding about sending a finished piece to a customer and hearing how much they love it.
That’s why I do this.
Honest Pricing Shouldn’t Be Complicated
One thing you’ll notice about Lazer Made is my pricing philosophy.
The price you see is the price for the product and the personalization.
I don’t believe customers should feel like they’re being charged extra every time they add another line of text or ask for a small customization.
Creating something personal should be enjoyable—not a math exercise at checkout.
The only additional cost is shipping, so you’ll know exactly what you’re paying before you place your order.
To me, that’s simply treating people fairly.
When Things Go Wrong
No small business is perfect. ‘m certainly not.
Recently, I accidentally shipped the wrong product to a customer. It was my mistake.
While we worked through the return shipping details fairly, I also made sure the customer received the correct item as quickly as possible.
Did it cost me money? Yes.
Would I rather have avoided the mistake? Absolutely.
But my reputation is worth more than the profit from any single order. If I make a mistake, I believe it’s my responsibility to make it right.
That’s not a marketing strategy. That’s simply how I believe people should be treated.
Why Supporting Small Businesses Still Matters
When you purchase from a small business, you’re often buying directly from the person who designed the product, answered your questions, created your order, inspected it, packaged it, and shipped it.
There’s a personal connection that’s difficult to duplicate.
Every review matters.
Every referral matters.
Every returning customer is deeply appreciated.
For me, success isn’t measured only by sales. It’s measured by the day someone tells me, “A friend recommended you because they said you do great work and you’re easy to work with.” There’s no better compliment than earning someone’s trust.
My Promise to Every Customer
If you order from Lazer Made, here’s the promise I hope you’ll remember:
I’ll treat your order as if it mattered to me personally.
I’ll communicate honestly.
I’ll create something I’m proud to put my name on.
If something goes wrong, I’ll own it and work to make it right.
Most importantly, I hope you receive more than a personalized laser engraved product. I hope you receive something created with care, integrity, and pride.
As America celebrates 250 years, I’m reminded that our country’s story has always included people willing to build something of their own and serve others well.
That’s the kind of small business I hope Lazer Made continues to be—today, tomorrow, and for many years to come.
Thank you for supporting my dream and for supporting American small businesses.
Whether you’re looking for a personalized gift, custom home décor, business awards, or one-of-a-kind engraved products, I’d love the opportunity to help bring your idea to life.
